Mentoring scheme

A mentee will be connected with a mentor who has valuable first-hand experience in one or more of the following areas: oncology, leadership, and academia. This will generally be a oncology registrar or consultant. The mentee will typically be a medical student, resident doctor or oncology trainee. This mutually beneficial scheme will provide both networking opportunities and individualised support in achieving aspirations and overcoming challenges.

Structure:

  • Three monthly virtual meetings for an initial period of one year.

  • Face to face meetings may be a possibility if mentors and mentees are working in the same trust.

The mentee will:

  • Create a personalised development plan to tackle specific goals

  • Receive advice, support and encouragement.

The mentor will:

  • Gain mentoring experience

  • Have an active role in promoting women in oncology leadership and academic roles.
